Licensed Electricians Serving Philadelphia, PA

Philadelphia rowhomes and twins were built for a few lights and a radio, not central air and EV chargers. JDV Electric holds a City of Philadelphia electrical contractor license and helps homeowners repair, upgrade and modernize their systems to City code.

Common Electrical Problems Faced By Philadelphia Homeowners

Most Philadelphia homes are 80 to 120 years old and have been updated one room at a time, often by different owners and contractors.

Electrical Warning Signs Every Philadelphia Homeowner Should Know

Older rowhomes and twins tend to show warning signs before a serious failure, especially in summer when air conditioners push old circuits to their limit.

These signs can point to overloaded circuits, failing wire or a worn panel. JDV Electric can inspect your home and find the actual cause before it becomes a bigger problem.

Why Working With A Local Electrician Matters

Philadelphia requires a licensed electrical contractor for permitted electrical work, plus City permits and third-party inspections. Working with a licensed local electrician keeps your project legal, insurable and ready for your next sale.

I contacted JDV to install a 50 amp line for an electric range. The line had to pass behind a 13' set of built in cabinets and wooden countertop that could not be moved. The cabinets were on a cement slab at the back of our row home. There was a slight access on one side of the slab through the basement. It seemed a monumental task to me. Piro (electrician dispatched by JDV) was on time to appointment. He was friendly, well-motivated and professional in all our interactions. I felt clear at every step along the way as to the work being done and why. There was no pressure to upsell on options. Piro stayed in contact with his management team along the way. The work was completed in a timely fashion on the first trip. The work was done well and with a guarantee. The office called to confirm my satisfaction with the work.

We’re Here to Answer Your Questions.

Most electrical installations, alterations, replacements and repairs need a City electrical permit. Routine maintenance, such as replacing a bulb, fuse, switch or receptacle, usually does not. We tell you upfront whether your project needs one.

Not for permitted work. The City requires a licensed electrical contractor to perform all electrical work covered by a permit. Unlicensed work can cause problems with inspections, insurance and home sales.

Yes. JDV Electric holds a City of Philadelphia electrical contractor license, along with Pennsylvania home improvement registration.

In most cases, yes. Fuse boxes limit how many circuits you can add and make overloading easier. A modern breaker panel adds capacity and room for safety devices.

Knob-and-tube or cloth wiring, frequent trips, warm outlets and too few outlets are common signs. An inspection shows the condition of your wiring and whether a partial or whole-home rewire makes sense.

Often, yes, if you have off-street parking or a garage and enough panel capacity. We check your service size and load, then explain whether the charger fits as is or needs an upgrade.

Older rowhomes often have several AC units sharing one circuit. Adding dedicated circuits, or upgrading the panel, usually stops the trips and the warm cords.

It depends on the type of service and our schedule that day. Book online or call, and our team will give you the next available appointment. Same-day service is often available.

Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 6 PM. If you smell burning or see sparks, turn off the main breaker if it is safe to do so, and call PECO for outages, downed lines or meter problems. Then contact us so a licensed electrician can find and repair the cause.
