Trusted Electricians Serving Bryn Mawr, PA

Bryn Mawr’s stone estates, Victorian twins and mid-century homes were wired long before central air and EV chargers. JDV Electric helps homeowners across the 19010 ZIP code repair, update and expand their electrical systems with licensed electricians and clear, upfront recommendations.

A close-up shot captures an individual with curly black hair and tattoos, wearing a red and blue polo shirt, performing electrical maintenance on a white wire attached to a wooden ceiling structure.

Common Electrical Problems Faced By Bryn Mawr Homeowners

Many Bryn Mawr homes are 80 to 130 years old and have been updated room by room, leaving wiring, panels and circuits that no longer match how the house is used.

Electrical Warning Signs Every Bryn Mawr Homeowner Should Know

Older Main Line homes usually give warnings before a serious electrical failure. Small changes in how your lights, outlets or panel behave are worth taking seriously.

If you notice any of these, don’t try to diagnose it yourself. JDV Electric can inspect the issue, explain what we find and recommend the right next step.

Why Working With A Local Electrician Matters

Bryn Mawr homes have plaster walls, stone construction and three different townships handling permits. A local electrician who knows Main Line homes plans the work around them instead of learning on your house.

I contacted JDV to install a 50 amp line for an electric range. The line had to pass behind a 13' set of built in cabinets and wooden countertop that could not be moved. The cabinets were on a cement slab at the back of our row home. There was a slight access on one side of the slab through the basement. It seemed a monumental task to me. Piro (electrician dispatched by JDV) was on time to appointment. He was friendly, well-motivated and professional in all our interactions. I felt clear at every step along the way as to the work being done and why. There was no pressure to upsell on options. Piro stayed in contact with his management team along the way. The work was completed in a timely fashion on the first trip. The work was done well and with a guarantee. The office called to confirm my satisfaction with the work.

We’re Here to Answer Your Questions.

We handle residential electrical repairs, panel upgrades, whole-home rewiring, knob-and-tube replacement, EV charger installation, surge protection, smoke and CO detectors, and indoor and outdoor lighting. Every job is done by licensed electricians.

Many do. Homes built before about 1940 often have knob-and-tube in attics and walls even after earlier renovations. An inspection shows how much is still active and whether it is safe to keep in service.

In most cases, yes. We fish new wire through existing cavities and use small, planned access openings instead of opening whole walls. Some patching is usually needed, and we explain where before work starts.

It depends on your loads. A 100-amp service can work for a smaller home, but central air, electric cooking, an EV charger or a finished third floor often call for a 200-amp upgrade. We do a load review before recommending one.

Often it can. It depends on your service size, panel space and how much load the house already carries. We check all three and tell you whether the charger fits as is or needs a panel or service upgrade.

Yes. We inspect and replace old feeds to outbuildings, add circuits for workshops and EV chargers, and install exterior and security lighting.

Bryn Mawr spans all three townships. When your project requires a permit, we coordinate it with the township your home is in.

It depends on the type of service and our schedule that day. Book online or call, and our team will give you the next available appointment. Same-day service is often available.

Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 6 PM. If you smell burning or see sparks, turn off the main breaker if it is safe to do so, and call PECO for outages, downed lines or meter problems. Then contact us so a licensed electrician can find and repair the cause.
